Review of Samsung Galaxy s8

Exterior design

The first thing that draws anyone’s attention when shopping for a gadget is its design. The beauty and sleekness of the design are what draws or repels people to a particular device.

And Samsung didn’t lose sight of this when designing the Galaxy s8. The gorgeous Samsung Galaxy S8 features a beautiful glass and metal design.

Both the front and the rear sides of the phone are covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, giving it an attractive and elegant look.

Moreover, the absence of a home button provides the screen with more room, making it appear more compact than some 5.5″ Samsung smartphones.

Unlike the other Samsung Galaxy smartphones with fingerprint sensors embedded in the home buttons, the s8 has no home button. Hence, its fingerprint sensor is behind the phone, just beside the rear camera.

The power button is on the right side of the phone. It acts as a shortcut to the camera. By tapping twice on it, you can access the camera and start making pleasant memories with crisp, clear photos.

While on the left side of the device, you will find the volume button. And just below that is Bixby – the new intelligent digital assistant from Samsung – which helps you navigate your phone with ease.

Display

Samsung Galaxy s8 comes with a 5.8-inch display yet it appears smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S7. All thanks to the bezel-less display, which is amazingly beautiful.

Wrapped with Corning Gorilla Glass, the 5.8″ display offers excellent screen quality and a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels with curved edges – brilliant.

The home button is not absent, but it is entirely invisible. The Galaxy s8 has a  USB Type C port and a 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom side of the phone.

In addition to the fingerprint sensor for security purposes, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has both facial recognition and iris scanner features plus a PIN method of entry as a backup.

This makes the phone one of the most secure smartphones in the market. And interestingly, the iris scanner works in the dark.

Camera

It may come as a surprise that the Samsung Galaxy S8 has the same 12-megapixel rear camera as the Samsung Galaxy s7.

And unlike some flagship phones like the iPhone 7 Plus and LG G6, the Galaxy s8 does not have dual rear cameras.

While the rear camera remains the same as the immediate predecessor, the front camera saw a slight improvement, which is from 5 megapixels to 8 megapixels with added autofocus and HDR.

Despite this improvement in the camera, it still captures very brilliant and clear photos with high resolution. So, if taking beautiful photos is essential to you, worry not, the Samsung Galaxy s8 got you covered.

Storage and Processors

Samsung Galaxy s8 comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal memory space, expandable up to 256GB with a micro SD card.

s8 comes with either an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or an octa-core Samsung Exynos chipset. This depends on your country of residence.

Perhaps you’re worried about which is better, don’t be!  Both chips are 10nm, and this means they both are very efficient.

Also, a feature of the Samsung Galaxy s8 is the 4G LTE and Gigabit LTE which provides for high download speed.

The Android operating system of this smartphone is the Nougat (Android 7). It also has a USB Type C (USB 3.1), Bluetooth 5.0 (first phone to support), dual-band Wi-Fi, wireless charging, and NFC.

The smart digital assistant -Bixby – can help you with things like editing photos, saving files, making phone calls, and much more.
