The Ghana Telecom University College

Like other tertiary institutions in Ghana, GTUC aims to deliver excellent and diverse programs that engage and stimulate students in intellectual exploration.

GTUC was founded in 2005 by the National Telecommunications body. The main aim of the school is to facilitate the development and training of leaders who will help make significant contributions in their fields of study and community.

Also, GTCU mainly facilitates the development of media-related courses. However, the school has advanced into offering other courses.

The institution whose council comprises outstanding successful people has its main campus at Tesano, Accra. At present, it has satellite campuses in Koforidua, Ho, Takoradi, and Kumasi.

Ghana Telecom University College was granted full accreditation status to run graduate programs in 2006.  In 2007, the enrollment of students was estimated to be around 7,000 students.

Around that period, it started the main postgraduate projects in Information Communication Technology (MSc.). In 2008, the graduate school started new programs in management, engineering, and telecommunications.

The school has produced at least 3200 students as of 2015. GTUC places so much focus on the practical skills of its students. Therefore, it organises a lot of professional workshops and seminars, especially telecommunications courses.

GTUC Admission Requirements

Below are the admission requirements for GTCU.

Diploma Programs

GBCE/SSSCE applicants must have grades (A-D) in both their elective and core subjects. This includes Mathematics, English Language, and Social Studies/Integrated Science. And also with any three elective subjects with relevance to the applicant’s area of study.

Undergraduate Programs

  • The applicant must make at least five credits at the GCE ‘O’ Level not excluding Mathematics and English Language.
  • Also, the applicant must make at least three credit passes in the relevant subjects at the higher level.
  • While for GBCE holders, they must have credit passes in English Language, Business Mathematics, and Integrated.
  • For WASSCE/SSSCE Holders, they must have credit passes in core mathematics, integrated science, English language. And also with three elective subjects which are relevant to the selected programs with at least aggregate 24/36.

Courses offered at the Ghana Telecom University

Before the inauguration of this school in 2013, the school was only authorised to provide certificate courses. And since the official launch of the school in August 2013, it has been offering bachelor and postgraduate courses.

Moreover, the university equips its students in technical skills and thus invests a lot in organising workshops and seminars. Also, the university offers several courses. They range from university courses to Masters, short courses to PhD courses.

Undergraduate Programs

Faculty of Business Studies – Degree (4 years/4yrs plus)

The university collaborates with Coventry University to run the business school. Some of the courses include; Marketing, Management, Accounting, Human Resource Management, Economics, Human Resource.

Others include Entrepreneurship, Accounting with Computing, Procurement, and Logistics, Marketing, Banking, and Finance.

Faculty of Engineering – Degree (4yrs/4yrs plus) 

The university partners with Anhalt University, Germany to run this faculty. In this faculty, here are some of the courses you can choose; Computer Engineering, Telecom Engineering, and Bachelor in Solar Engineering (Degree, three years).

Faculty of Computing and Information Systems – Degree (4yrs/4yrs plus) 

The courses in this faculty include Information Technology, Informatics, and Mobile Internet Communication.

Short Courses

These short courses are designed to ensure that students have added advantage in the labour market over their contemporaries. Each course lasts for at most two years and can be run part-time or full-time.

The courses are of two categories; certificate and diploma courses. The diploma courses include; Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computing Science, IT, Business, Business Information Systems, Accounting, Management, Marketing, and Public Relations.

While the certificate courses are; Certificate in Mobile Repair, Certificate in Table Computer Repair, Certificate in Web Design, A+ Computer Certification. Others are; Network+ Certification, Certificate in Software Applications, and Network Security.

Masters Degrees Courses

The university partners with several other top universities around the globe to run its Master’s degree program. Courses offered include; MBA in Healthcare Management, MBA Logistics, MBA in Petroleum economics and finance.

The institution also runs MBA Global Business, and MBA Oil and Gas Management in their Master Degree courses.

PhD Programs

GTUC partners with CASS Europe, Luxembourg to run these programs. Some of the programs the institution run are Telecommunications Management, Engineering D. programs, Engineering Project Management, Healthcare Management.

They also offer Project Management, ICT Management, Business Administration, Project Management, Business Decision Management, and Information technology for management.

Besides, GTUC also partners with M.S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences in India to offer a few parts/full-time PhD courses.

The courses include; Dental Science, Pharmacy, Art and Design Science, Management and Commerce, Engineering and Technology, Hospitality Management and Catering Technology.
