National Identification Number, popularly known as NIN, is a unique 11-digit number assigned to every individual in Nigeria. In December 2020, NCC announced a NIN-SIM linkage procedure that must be done, or you risk getting your line blocked. 

You must link your NIN with your Glo line to continue using the network. This blog post will walk you through the steps to link your NIN to your Glo line in Nigeria.

How To Link NIN To Glo

You can link your National Identity Number (NIN) with your Glo sim in several ways. There are four methods you can link them together.

The two ways to link your National Identity Number (NIN) are:

  1. Using USSD code
  2. Through the Glo-NIN dedicated portal.
  3. Through the NIMC Mobile ID App

1. Using USSD Code

You will need to follow a few simple steps to link your NIN to your Glo account in Nigeria. First, you must have your National Identification Number (NIN) ready. 

You will also need to have your Glo phone number available. Once you have these two pieces of information, you can follow the steps below to link your NIN to your Glo account:

  • Dial *996# on your Glo line and select the option to link your NIN. You can also dial*996*NIN# and click send.
  • After dialing *996#, it will pop up a message prompt asking you to input your National Identification Number (NIN).
  • Insert your NIN and click send.
  • You’ll receive a message confirming if you’ve successfully linked it with your Glo sim card.

Once you have followed these steps, your NIN will be successfully linked to your Glo phone number.

2. Through The Glo-NIN Dedicated Portal

Glo has a portal that links your NIN to your Glo sim card. However, you need mobile data and an internet connection for this method. Here’s how to connect your NIN to Glo on their website.

  • You’ll be asked to input your phone number, name, Email, and National Identity Number (NIN).
  • After filling in your details, click proceed.
  • The website will send a message “Dear user, your details have been submitted successfully.”

That’s it. You’ve successfully linked your NIN to your Glo Number.

3. Through The NIMC Mobile ID App

If you still have a problem connecting your NIN to your Glo number with the other methods. You can also use the NIMC Mobile ID app to link your NIN to your Glo Phone number.

Here’s how to link your NIN to Glo Using the NIMC Mobile ID App

Step 1: Download the NIMC Mobile ID App

Go to the Google Play Store for Android devices or the App Store for iOS devices to download it.

Step 2: Use your Phone Number and NIN to Sign In

After installing the Mobile app, launch the app and sign in using your national identification number (NIN) and phone number. An OTP will be sent to the number for Verification. Please note that the OTP has a validity of one minute.

Step 3: Create your six-digit pin

Once you’ve verified your phone number using the OTP they sent. You will be required to create a six-digit PIN or password. This will be your login pin.

Step 4: Link Your Phone Number

Once logged in, you will see “link my numbers” on the dashboard. Click on it and add the phone number you want to link. You can link up to seven numbers using the same NIN.

However, for verification, an OTP will be sent to every number you want to link.

4. Through SMS

You can also use SMS to link your NIN with your Glo sim. Here’s how to do it.

  • Open the messaging app on your phone.
  • Send “NIN” to 996 or “Update NIN NIN Firstname and Lastname” to 996. For instance, “Update NIN 45686737894 Bidemi Gloria” to 996
  • That’s it. You’ve successfully linked your NIN with your Glo.

The National Identity Number is predominantly significant for any Nigerian. Your NIN is required for many things like a voter card, driver’s license, international passport, and many more.

Also, the federal government has mandated every Nigerian should link their NIN with their sim card. So, if you think you don’t need a National Identity Number, you’re very wrong.

Requirements:

Please note that you need at least one of these requirements.

  • Bank Verification Number (BVN)
  • Birth certificate

Step 1: Download The Pre-Enrollment Form

Go to the pre-enrollment portal  https://penrol.nimc.gov.ng. Download and print the pre-enrollment form. Please fill it out and ensure all the details are correctly filled in.

Step 2: Submit The Form

Go into any NIMC registration center and submit the form to the attendant. Also, go along with any of the requirements listed above.

The attendant will fill in all the details you filled in the form into the NIMC registration portal. Your facial photograph, fingerprints, and signature will be taken as well.

People who can’t read or write should take someone who can along. Also, minors are required to come with their parents or guardian. Once all your details have been correctly taken, you’ll be issued a transaction ID slip to acknowledge the registration.

Step 3: NIN Issuance

You must go back after three days for your National Identity Number issuance. However, it may take more than three days; in some instances, ensure you keep your transaction ID safe.

How to check NIN On Glo Through USSD

The code to check your NIN on your Glo number is *346#. After dialing the code, click on 1 to check your NIN. However, there’s a ₦20 charge on every check.

Also, the sim has to be registered and linked to that NIN before you can check it on the number. 

Can I Check My NIN Online?

No, you cannot check it online. There’s no portal available to check NIN online. You can only check it through the SIM that the NIN was registered with.

Can I Register For NIN On My Glo Sim?

No, you cannot register for NIN on your Glo Sim. Going to a registered outlet for your national identification number would be best.
