Naira Marley has been caught up in the web of several controversies since he made his mark in the Nigerian music industry. The artiste has used his influence as a music artiste to drum support for Internet fraudsters, scammers, and Yahoo Boys in Nigeria.
His stance on internet fraud attracted mixed feelings from celebrities, entertainers, and the Nigerian populace. Nigerian entertainers such as Ruggedman and Simi opposed Naira Marley’s view and support for internet fraudsters.
Naira Marley, who happens to be an advocate of internet fraud released the song ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy’ which featured Zlatan Ibile; a buzzing song that went viral shortly after release.
Subsequently, Naira Marley was arrested by Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, May 10th, 2019, a date which coincidentally falls on his birthday. He was arrested alongside other music colleges, Rahman Jago, Zlatan Ibile, and two others.

While the four people (Rahman Jago, Zlatan Ibile, and two others) were released, Naira Marley was remanded in EFCC custody and was charged to court with an eleven-count fraud allegation.
According to the EFCC, Naira Marley was found with implicating materials. Soon after, Naira Marley was granted bail of ₦2 million and released from prison on Friday, June 14th, 2019 by a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The defendants were accused of stealing, assault, conspiracy, and obstructing the officials of the Nigerian Police from arresting Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley).
However, the Magistrate Court which was presided over by one Tajudeen Elias dismissed the court charge after a settlement agreement between the complainant (Adelekan Ademola) and the defendants (Azeez Fashola, Idris Fashola, Babatunde Fashola, and Kunle Obere) was received.
