Early Life

Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley was born on the 10th day of May 1991 in Agege, Lagos State to the family of Mr and Mrs Fashola. At the age of 11, he relocated with his parents to England, where he was enrolled in Porlock Hall and later in Walworth school where he obtained a certificate in secondary education.

Naira Marley is also a graduate of Peckham Academy, an academy he obtained a degree in business. Career

Naira Marley who fuses pidgin with Yoruba in his Afrobeats and hip-hop tracks began singing in 2014. In 2015, he released his debut EP titled “Gotta Dance”.

You may be curious to know how Naira Marley got his stage name. He got his stage name from Late Reggae legend, Bob Marley who happens to be his role model. His reason also for keeping dreadlocks is to honour the late Jamaican music icon.

Moving in, Naira Marley also collaborated with indigenous rappers Lil Kesh and Olamide to release the song “Issa goal” which served as the theme song for the Super Eagles of Nigeria during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Controversies

Over the years, Naira Marley has been caught in the web of several controversies. This started with his arrest by the EFCC for his involvement in internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo. He was arrested along with his friend and fellow musician, Zlatan Ibile who was later released with Rahman Jago and other suspects.
