About Shina Peters

Oluwashina Akanbi Peters is a Nigerian songwriter and performing artiste popularly regarded as the “Oba of Nigerian Music”. He was born in Ogun State, Nigeria on the 30th of May 1958.

Akanbi Peters started his music career at a very young age. He began a superstar among his peers when he was a kid. They would gather under a tree and begin to freestyle in their local dialect. They called themselves “Olushina and His Twelve Fantastic Brothers”.

Sir Shina Peters believed that he had big potentials and he could take his music to the next level, so he started learning to play musical instruments from the standard drums sets, guitars, and the piano.

When Sir Peters was 19, he decided to take his music career seriously and joined Ebenezer Obey’s band. After making history and many breakthroughs on the band, he left them and joined another band called General Prince Adekunle’s band.

Sometimes, Sir Peters would take the position of the lead singer whenever the band leads artiste, General Adekunle was ill or not feeling too good. After a successful career with Adekunle, Sir Shina believed that it was time to start his band.

Around 1975, Sir Peter started his band with his brother, Segun Adewale and they called it “Sir Shina Peters and his International Stars”. This duo made a lot of really good songs and released one of the best albums in the country back then.

Sir Shina Peters and his International Stars dropped their first studio album in 1989, and they called it “Afro-Juju Series 1”. In 1989, the Afro-Juju Series album was produced and released under CBS Records of Nigeria. In less a year, the album became double platinum.
