About UNIZIK

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, also known as UNIZIK is a Federal university in Nigeria located in the southeastern part of Nigeria. UNIZIK is based in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, Awka. 

This federal institution was named after Chief Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Who is a national hero and the first president of Nigeria. Its main campus is located in Awka South, Awka, Anambra State. With Geo-location of 6.242889N (Latitude) and 7.118289E(Longitude).

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University popularly known as UNIZIK was Established in 1991. Currently, Professor Charles Esimone is her current Vice-Chancellor taking over from his predecessor, Professor Joseph .E. Ahaneku.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Formerly was known as Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) which was established through Law No. 7 of 30 July 1980 by the state Government.

UNIZIK stated with multiple campuses located in Abakiliki, Enugu, Awka, and Nnewi but they all merge to become the great Nnamdi Azikiwe University you know today. UNIZIK became a property of the Federal Government of Nigeria on the 15th day of July 1992.

UNIZIK also has two other campuses other than the one in Awka. One of the other campuses is located at Nnewi (Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital [NAUTH] and Okofia) and another at Agulu (Faculty of Pharmacy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University). 

During the 2004/2005 academic year UNIZIK had a population of 24,706 for the full-time and 12,476 students for the part-time programs, At the moment UNIZIK has a population of over 120,000 students both part-time and full-time program including JAMB, Jubep, Sand-wish, etc)

 The Nnamdi Azikiwe University is a public institution made up of 14 faculties offering series of courses of study ranging from Law to Arts, Natural Sciences, Engineering, African Languages, European Languages, Management Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences, Social Sciences, and Education.

These faculties & department also award degrees to undergraduates and postgraduates that completed their program. Some of the degrees offered in UNIZIK include B. A., B. Sc., B. Ed., B. Sc. (Ed.), B. Eng., LL. B, MB, BS, B. Pharm, B. Nsc, B. Mr(PT), B. MLS along with other postgraduate degrees. 

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University is also affiliated with The Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Pope John Paul II Major Seminary, Okpuno and Auchi Polytechnic, Benin. 

UNIZIK is also a member of The Association of African Universities(AAU) and The International Association of Universities(AU). It is one of the 25 federal universities which are overseen, accredited and funded by the National Universities Commission.

How To Get Admission In UNIZIK

Students In UNIZIK

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK usually sell their POST-UTME application form around May and August. Every aspirant that performed well in their JAMB/UTME exam and selected UNIZIK as their first choice institution is expected to register for UNIZIK POST-UTME examinations.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University is one of the most sorts after educational institutions in the whole of the Southeastern part of Nigeria. Approximately 892,000 aspirants register UNIZIK as their first or second choice institution every year but less than 60,000 are awarded admission letters.

If you choose UNIZIK as your first choice institution, you are probably competing with over 10,000 students or aspirants for a department that wants to admit only 300 students. So, set your phone aside and be serious.

If the course you are applying for in UNIZIK a very competitive course like law, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, or Mass Comm, make sure you score 30 marks above the cut-off mark. your admission. That is if your cutoff mark is 230 score 260 instead and your admission is sure.

UNIZIK will always admit serious and dedicated students. The Nnamdi Azikiwe University also makes use of 3 admission lists. The first list, second list, and VC lists.

 All aspirants of admission in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University must have attained the age of 16 by/on the 1st day of October of the year the is/was given. And also the minimum age for Continuous Education Programme must have attained the age of 22. These are the age requirements of The Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

October/November GCE/NECO obtained the year of admission shall not be accepted. The information given below strictly belongs to The Nnamdi Azikiwe University and own the right to change or alter all and/any of the information given below

1. Admission Into Unizik Through UTME Exams:

This type of admission usually given to students that passed their JAMB exams. The Universities Matriculation Examination (UME) will give you admission to study in UNIZIK if:

1. They attain the minimum UME score (usually 200) and satisfy the assessment in the POST-UTME screening (usually above 55%)

2. They must own one of these two documents

O’level result( SSCE or GCE) with at least 5 credit passes in 5 various subjects including English obtained in not more than two sittings.

3. They satisfy the Faculty/Departmental requirements for their program as approved by the Senate.

2. Admission into UNIZIK by Direct Entry:

Now, if JAMB refused to favor you, this method is also advisable, although it’s a long cut. This method is for all UNIZIK aspirants that have already finished a program in another institution or registered through Jupeb. 

The are UNIZIK admission requirements for Jubep and direct entry students.

  • Meet the requirement of Admission by UTME
  • Posses at least one of the following qualifications:
  • At least 2 subjects passed at Principal or Advanced level of GCE, SSCE or HSC.
  • Passes at the credit/merit level in at least two major subjects in NCE.
  • A first university degree or HND or it’s equivalent.
  • A minimum of a lower credit pass at ND or university diploma in relevant discipline

3. Admission into UNIZIK from the Pre-Science Programme:

This type of admission is only for science students. You will register for the UNIZIK pre-science program and study there for a year, before writing your POST-UTME. Once you write you UNIZIK POST-UTME, you will be admitted directly to 200 level and start your lectures as a year 2 student.

Going to Mbauku, for tutorials and lectures in not such a bad idea. It is recommended for those in science classes to start and prepare them for the university. This is the admission given to UNIZIK aspirants.

4. Admission into UNIZIK by Inter-University transfer:

 This is only done after the first year at the undergraduate level if you meet the requirements set by the university admission committee. Once you meet their requirements, you can change your institution to UNIZIK.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University POST-UTME Registration

You are to register on this page www.unizik.edu.ng. The POST-UTME Pin is sold for N2,000 in the following banks Diamond Bank, Fidelity Bank, First Bank, Access Bank, UBA, Zenith Bank, GTB or simply generate a Remita and save yourself the trouble then head to a cafe to complete your registration.

UNIZIK Exam Dates and Documents.

The dates have not been released by the school authorities but it likely yo be the last week of August. Don’t worry you be sent an email. When you are registering for the POST_-UTME, the required documents would be displayed such as primary and secondary school testimonial, WAEC/NECO/GCE result, birth certificate, etc. But when heading for the POST-UTME, YOU MUST GO WITH THE PRINTOUT.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University School Fees

 The school fees vary among departments but are usually above 60,000 for year one and 20,000 for final year students.

Are located at Ifite, Holy family, P & P and The Eke-Awka market and the hostels inside the school include Two boys hostel equipped to contain over 400 students each, the girl’s hostel containing close to 1000 female students and Emelda which her occupants are over 700students both the male and female residence hall.

These hostels provide clean water, a conducive reading environment, over 16 hours of power supply, recreation hall, cinema equipped with a plasma T.V and a Decoder, captivating landscape and state of the art work out centers including a football, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts and fields. 

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University is an urban campus consisting of well-tarred roads and trees planted in every square inch. ICT and technology used in UNIZIK are state of the art and regularly updated from over 1000 desktop computer found in the Digital Library to research and innovative equipment used in the science village and the Faculty of Engineering.

The Faculty of Agriculture is also not left out, state of the fish pond and poultry farms with hectares of land at their disposal. They are also taxi cabs and other reliable means of transport provided with and a fine road system.
