Olamide Biography

Olamide was born Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, on March 15, 1989 in Bariga, Lagos State. Of the three children born to his parents PA Adedeji and Ronke Osisanya Adedeji, Olamide is the second child. Interestingly, he is also related to one of the top DJs in the music industry, Eniola Olamilekan popularly known as DJ Enimoney.

Olamide’s primary and secondary education is not known, it is a known fact that he attended the Tai Solari University of Education where he studied mass communication.

The professional music career of Olamide “Baddo” or “Baddo Sneh”, as he is widely known, began in 2010 under the umbrella of Coded Tunes record label where he released his debut single titled “Eni Duro”.

In 2011, “Baddo Sneh” released his debut album which he named Rapsodi which got a lot of approval from the public through the hit single “Omo to shan” which was among the tracks in the album. Omo to shan was mostly played on several radio stations in Lagos and across the country. The hit track featured guest artists like Wizkid

With the release of the Rapsodi album, Olamide Baddo was offered a golden opportunity to work with several musical icons like D’banj, 9ice, ID Cabassa (who is the owner of Coded Tunes Record Label). 

 Olamide released another album titled YBNL. Popular names like Samklef, Pheelz, Young John, Davido, etc were among those who worked with Olamide to produce his second album. The third studio album that was released by the indigenous rap god was BGEL (Baddest Guy Ever Liveth) in 2013, by this time Olamide had set up his record label YBNL Nation. The album contained more than 12 tracks that were produced by Pheelz the producer.

Baddest Guy Ever Liveth housed a truckload of hit singles like “Turn Up”, “Durusoke”, “Yemi My Lover” and “Eleda MI O”. BGEL was ranked number 12 on the top 12 list of Nigerian albums, on Afrikka Radio.  release of Baddest Guu Liveth album. “Street OT” consisted of hit singles such as; “Goons Mi”, “Story for the Gods” which featured prominent artists like Lil Kesh, Don Jazzy, Phyno, and Reminisce.

The fifth studio album of Olamide titled Eyan Mayweather was released. Producers such as Pheelz, ID Cabasa, and Young John worked on the production of the album which contained 21 tracks. Following Eyan Mayweather was the release of “The Glory”, Olamide’s sixth album in 2016. The Glory consists of 16 tracks, featuring artists like Burna Boy, Davoler, and Sande Coal.

Olamide further shocked the world with a release of a “999 EP” which contained nine tracks. Though the 999 EP didn’t get as much recognition as other projects and also received a lot of criticism because of the consistency in the use of rap in all the tracks after he had stayed off rap songs for some time.

It was later disclosed by Olamide on 18th February 2020, that YBNL had signed a joint venture deal with an international distribution company called Empire. According to him, the new signing, Fireboy DMLand other new intakes to the record label had the prospect of becoming beneficiaries of the deal.

Olamide has gone on to release other albums including Carpe Diem which happened to be his eleventh studio album on 8th October 2020. The album features young stars like Fireboy DML, Omah Lay, Bad Boy Tim’s, etc.  He is currently working on another album titled “UY Scuti” which he announced on social media, on March 16, 2021.
